A panic disorder can be defined as a pathological condition in which the sudden onset of intense anxiety can occur, associated with a sensation of being on the verge of death. During the panic episode, the patient experiences marked symptoms such as difficulty breathing, tachycardia, tightness in the precordial area, nausea or, sometimes, retching.
An intense panic attack constitutes a condition of real psychic trauma, and, therefore, leaves intense and persistent traces in emotional memories. In this way, the continuous and nagging worry that another episode may recur is triggered and takes root.
The patient then begins to suffer from an anxious state, characterized by the worry of feeling bad and the scenario soon becomes complicated with the manifestation of the complication of agoraphobia. In this case, the patient tries not to leave his home and well-known places where he believes he can receive help and support. The subject also develops a notable relational dependence, and insistently asks not to be left alone. Furthermore, he always wants to be accompanied and helped by someone he considers reassuring.
